2009 Jaguar XF

The 2009 Jaguar XF is a new model, replacing the aging S-Type in Jaguar's lineup. This mid-sized, rear-wheel-drive sedan offers a fresh, engaging alternative to luxury imports such as the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E-Class, and Lexus GS. After a 300-mile test drive, we'd rank the Jaguar XF near the top of its class.

The Jaguar XF delivers everything you'd expect in a contemporary luxury sedan, and then some. The big news with XF is styling, interior design and features, though the hardware underneath is anything but ordinary. A lot of it, including the suspension design, is borrowed from the Jaguar XK.

Factor in a well-engineered body structure, and the XF is exactly what it should be: smooth, quiet and responsive. It feels lighter and more agile than some of its competitors, and it bears up like a sport sedan when driven aggressively.

The XF comes with a choice of two V8 engines. The base engine is Jag's familiar 4.2-liter V8, delivering 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The upgrade is a supercharged version of the 4.2, generating 420 hp and 408 lb-ft and surpassing nearly all competitors in output. Both V8s come with Jaguar's six-speed ZF automatic transmission, which is one of the best automatics money can buy.

The XF will be offered in three trim levels, starting with the normally aspirated Luxury, which is better equipped than most base models in this category. The Premium Luxury adds even more stuff, including double-stitched, soft-grain leather on the dash and door panels. The SC (for supercharged) comes with just about everything Jaguar offers, including CATS automatic suspension control and 20-inch wheels.

Then there's the racy new look. The XF marks a new direction for Jaguar, but it also continues some of the styling themes that have identified Jaguars for decades. The roofline and the shape of the side glass are intended to create the impression of a sporty, two-door coupe more than a four-door sedan, and to a considerable extent it works. The XF presents one of the more interesting designs in a category full of handsome automobiles. If you're intrigued by the photographs, you'll like it better in real life.

The same applies inside. We really like the XF cabin, for both its look and overall function. Slide into this sedan, and an interactive greeting that Jaguar calls the handshake welcomes the driver and reminds him or her that driving is an active process. The wood, wool and leather create the feel and scent of a British club room, yet the design is light, airy and almost Scandinavian. The XF interior is more minimalist than its German competitors, but also more charming and easier to get familiar with.

Of course, the swoopy styling has its drawbacks. By nearly every exterior dimension, the XF is slightly larger than all competitors, but the flow of its roofline and the rake of its rear glass mean rear headroom is tight. In general, the rear seat feels more confining than that in a Mercedes E-Class or Audi A6. On the upside, the XF's trunk is larger than any competitor's, and a folding rear seat further expands capacity. The importance of these packaging issues will depend on the buyer's priorities.

In our estimation, the XF debuts as one of the most appealing cars in its class. Before the XF, well-heeled buyers seeking an option to the dense-pack switches, multi-layered interfaces and alphabet-soup of electronics in most imported luxo/sport sedans probably had to think about a brand with less cachet or dynamic capability. No more. With steady improvement in Jaguar's resale values and customer-satisfaction ratings the last several years, the new XF offers an excellent alternative.

The 2009 XF replaces the 2008 S-Type in Jaguar's line-up, though the two cars will sell concurrently during calendar year 2008.

GM Awards Small-Car Production to Michigan Plant

General Motors will make its new subcompact car in Orion Township, Mich., the automaker said Friday, dashing hopes in Spring Hill, Tenn., and Janesville, Wis., that the small car would keep one of their factories alive.

Stamping for the new car will take place in Pontiac, Mich., GM said in a statement. The small car, which GM said it plans to start producing in 2011, will save about 1,200 jobs in Orion and 200 in Pontiac.

GM originally planned to make the new car in China, basing it on the Chevrolet Spark set for sale next year in Europe. But in May, GM agreed to make the car in the United States in exchange for UAW concessions in advance of the automaker's June 1 Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in New York.

The automaker said it planned to retool the Orion factory to make as many as 160,000 small and compact vehicles a year on two shifts. The Spring Hill and Janesville plants, which had been candidates for the small car, now face the prospect of indefinite idling.

The Orion Township plant currently makes the Chevy Malibu and the Pontiac G6 sedans and was scheduled for standby idling in September.

GM is phasing out its Pontiac brand by the end of 2010, and the automaker also builds the Malibu in Kansas, City, Kan. The entire Pontiac stamping plant was set to idle by December 2010.

GM will still idle both plants as scheduled and expects to begin retooling them in late 2010, the automaker said. It will only reopen building No. 14 of the Pontiac plant and will keep buildings 15 and 25 closed. The Spring Hill assembly plant, which makes the Chevrolet Traverse crossover, is scheduled for standby in November. It could power up again if GM needs additional capacity due to future market demand, the automaker said. Production of light-vehicles ended in December at the Janesville factory, which was the oldest car plant in North America. The plant's medium-duty truck line closed this spring.

GM's plant location for the car became politicized because the U.S. government is slated to own 60 percent of GM once the company emerges from bankruptcy protection.

Last week, the Michigan congressional delegation launched an all-out lobbying effort to land the plant.

New 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Ford Mustang GT

Ford Mustang is one of the greatest cars in terms of sales success of all time. Approximately 50% of all sports cars sold in United States of America are Ford Mustangs. This muscle car model today still remains one of the hottest selling cars in America. It’s also America’s best selling convertible. 2007 Mustang GT is equipped with 4.6 liter, all-aluminum V8 engine that outputs 300 horsepower. That´s more than 50% power increase over the V8 found in the classic 1964 Mustang.

Orca SC7

Orca (much like in Pagani Zonda) uses super-light materials to reduce the weight of this supercar as much as possible. The result is obvious, SC7 weights just 850 kg. Its engine produces 738 ft lbs at 4200 rpm torque and outputs 850 horsepower, which sets power to weight ratio to 1 bhp:1 kg. The production of this Swiss supercar is limited to only 7 automobiles.

Ferrari FXX

The Ferrari FXX supercar is manufactured in Italy, along with all other Ferrari's, and was under production by the end of 2005. This sports car is a great display of new car technology, which includes innovations from Ferrari, along with other companies that have continuously contracted parts in association with the Ferrari brand. The Enzo is the supercar that the FXX is based on, but there are specific functions found on the FXX, that are not found on the Enzo, which makes the FXX a complete car of it's own accord. The engine, and other standard operating systems for the car, are modeled after the Enzo as well, but have been modified to accommodate differing fuel standards, and other technological restrictions.

The FXX boasts a very low gear shifting time (under 100 ms), which is essential for a sports car of this high magnitude. The brake pads have also been tweaked in order to create a safer atmosphere for the driver, while still making the car just as superficially viable as its predecessor. The tires are another feature that are highly touted as an individual characteristic of the car, and are custom made only for the Ferrari FXX, not for any other vehicle. Like the Enzo, the features of the Ferrari FXX's interior are custom made for the user, which means that every driver is measured specifically measured for the car upon purchase.

The Ferrari FXX is definitely a supercar that cannot be mass-produced, mainly due to production costs, but also due to the fact that only a select few are willing to purchase such an exotic car due to the extensively high $ 1,773,000 / 1,500,000 euro price. Thus only 29 units of this sports car were built. The Ferrari FXX computer technology held inside the car also makes for a great driving experience, and tells the driver how their technique can be improved to assist their ability to function along with the car.

New ferrari

As with all Ferraris, the new California is a fast car that will turn heads. But for those who want more, Edo-competition has the answer.

Although the Ferrari California’s 453 hp rating is impressive, that’s not enough for everyone. Edo Competition has a tuning package for the California that increases power to 500 hp from the 4.3-liter V-8. To develop this extra power, Edo Competition remapped the ECU and developed a high-performance exhaust with butterfly valves to really let the V-8 wail.

In addition to tuning the engine, Edo Competition offers a whole list of options for the car. There are several unique 20- and 21-inch wheels offered as well as a lowered stock suspension or an entirely new adjustable sport suspension.

Edo Competition also has options for those that find the California’s interior a little too plain. The company has a whole list of available interior options and will even complete custom requests. Use caution when checking the interior option sheet as the folks at Edo Competition won’t deny any request.

Prices for the tuning package, wheels, and other options are not listed, but expect to pay a considerable sum. All options are available now through Edo Competition.

2009 Nissan Z

The 2009 Nissan Z debuts the redesigned 370Z Coupe alongside the 350Z Roadster that carries over the previous generation body style. The 6-speed manual features an industry-first synchronized downshift rev matching system that automatically adjusts engine speed when shifting to match the exact speed of the next gear, essentially “blipping” the throttle to match the engine rpm to the gear selected.

2009 Hummer H3T

The 2009 HUMMER H3T is a new midsize truck powered by either 239-horsepower Vortec 3.7-liter inline five cylinder with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
